Dr. Garima Poddar, completed her graduation from Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College and Hospital, Pune, India in 2005. She has received fellowship from the prestigious International college of dentists. She practices microscope enhanced dentistry routinely at her center. She has a clinical experience of 16 years.

At present, she is a senior consultant in the dental department of Shanti Memorial Super Specialty Hospital, Cuttack, Odisha and is a faculty at Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Spain for Diploma in endodontics program.

She is a certified silver member of Style Italiano Endodontics.

She is a key opinion leader for Micro mega (France), Meta Biomed (Korea), Bombay Dental & Surgical Pvt. Ltd. (India).

Recently she was declared winner of Famdent Outstanding dentist of the year award for 2021, and also highly commended outstanding dentist in 2022. She also won, Famdent special jury award in the category of outstanding dentist of the year for 2019.

She has delivered keynote lectures at many reputed national and international platforms. She has presented papers in various conferences at state, national and international level and also contributed to a book- Clinical atlas of retreatment in endodontics.

She has keen interest in sharing her endodontic experiences, with budding dentists. Her favorite topics include modern root canal treatment, rubber dam isolation techniques and magnification.



There has been a lot of advancement in endodontics in recent years, especially in the section of materials used in root canal treatments and retreatments both surgically as well as non-surgically. Bioceramic materials have seen a lot of improvisation in past few years. New bioceramic cements and bioceramic putty, have gained a lot of popularity in endodontics. They can be used as a root canal sealer in routine root canal treatment cases, as well as could be used in certain scenarios as a substitute of MTA.

While performing root canal treatment of a tooth with severe curvature, or a tooth with splits or even in case with periapical lesions, using a bioceramic sealer as a choice of material for obturation of such cases, serves to be helpful. While performing root canal treatment of a tooth with splits or severe curvature of canals, many a times, the clinician finds WVC or CWC techniques of obturation difficult to perform because of inability of the tip of the down pack, backfill device and even vertical pluggers to reach desired depth inside the canals. In such cases, using a sealer based obturation technique with a bioceramic sealer which could be injected into the canal is proving to be a good alternative in recent times.

Bioceramic putty is a novel material which can be used for perforation repair and even for retrograde filling, in cases of periapical endodontic surgeries.

This workshop, aims at honing the skill of using bioceramics in our endodontic practice with ease. During this workshop, the participants would be able to learn obturation using bioceramic sealer and also perform perforation repair with bioceramic putty (BIoCrepair), at different sites on 3D printed tooth models with lateral perforation, strip perforations etc. Retrograde filling using bioceramic putty on tooth models would also be a part of this workshop.


Teach me how to isolate

A simple & efficient tool like rubber dam isolation, which is existing in the dental field since 1864, is a great isolation technique. It is very helpful in infection control during dental procedures, helps in working under dry conditions as well as protects the patient’s oral mucosa and cavity from coming in contact with irrigating solutions, which might cause a chemical burn. It was first described by Dr. Barnum over 150 years ago. Rubber dam isolation is obligatory in endodontics for both safety of the patient as well as for infection control. It provides optimum isolation, which is additionally helpful in using gadgets like an electronic apex locator and derive accurate readings. In adhesive dentistry also, the materials used require proper moisture control, which can be achieved with rubber dam isolation with ease.

However, its use in endodontics didn’t see whole hearted acceptance earlier. During recent times, this technique has gained much more acceptance due to the multifold benefits that this technique provides.
